Staying Well During Cold Season Tip

Keep colds and flu bugs at bay this fall by adding this simple Ayurvedic practice into your preventative daily remedy.

SOOTHE YOUR SINUSES:
To keep excess ‘vata’ (one of the dosha elements that increases in the winter and can cause an imbalance of dryness and fatigue in the body)  from drying out your nasal passages and fostering bad bugs, lubricate the nasal passages with an Ayurvedic technique called nasya, or the application of oil.  On mornings and evenings during the fall season and especially when you feel a cold coming on, warm coconut oil or sesame oil and apply the warm oil into the nostrils and outer ears.  This will keep your mucus membranes protected with a layer of antifungal and antibacterial ointment (if you use coconut oil, you apply this properties).  This will help to prevent the telltale signs of an imbalance of ‘vata’ such as dry skin, constipation, insomnia, restlessness, and anxiety and fear.  This technique is good for children of all ages and adults too!
